Life Categories

One of the things that I think is really important for everyone to identify is their life categories. These are just different aspects of your life that you care about. From past experiences, I learned that it’s very important to do this so that when you come to a failure or a difficult situation in life, you can compartmentalize. That is, you can put your situation in a category and objectively look at things. You can assess that you are doing bad in that category, but in other aspects of your life, you’re doing okay. It helps to absorb some of the shock and motivates you to work on that weakness category as opposed to just throwing in the towel and saying life is horrible all around. There was actually a study done that found that people who compartmentalized had higher self esteem because they didn’t let negative affects spill over

For example, here are my life categories:

1. Career – this is anything to do with preparing for my future career and when I do start working in the “real world,” this will be anything that pertains to that. This includes any interviews that I get for internships or anything like that. It also includes part time jobs that I have right now.

2. Academics I’m in pharmacy school so this is things like studying, exams, grades, research projects, and just making it through graduation. After I graduate, things that are related to continuing education or maybe another degree is going to fall into this category.

3. Relationships – This is actually divided into subcategories for me: family, friends, and professional relationships. If I were dating or actively searching to be a in a relationship, that would be the fourth subcategory, but I’m not right now so that’s not considered an active category for me. But this is pretty self explanatory. This has anything to do with maintaining and keeping relationships.

4. Finances – I hate this category, but I know that it’s important. Also a self explanatory category.

5. The Self So this is broken down into a couple subcategories as well. The first is Mental Health and has to do with keeping my mind and spirit sane. This might be things like incorporating mindful meditating or journaling into my daily routine. Things that keep my mind healthy. The next subcategory is physical health so, things like workout schedules and doctor checkups. The last category is Self Improvement. That is things like am I working on learning a new skill that I’ve always wanted to learn? What’s my progress on my reading list and what are some more titles I want to put on that? Am I actively working on a personal weakness? Things like that. 

As said earlier, identifying the different categories in your life really help prepare you to compartmentalize when you need to. It can also be a great way to start identifying some of your personal strengths and weaknesses in an organized matter since you already have defined categories of aspects in your life that are important to you. Questions That Bring You Closer Together

Hello, Sunshines! Since this blog is about me, I thought that it would be appropriate for you to get to know me, but I didn’t want to do just a simple “10 Facts About Me” post. I wanted something more meaningful and more insightful into the kind of person I am. I found 36 questions that are supposed to bring people closer together. I’m probably not going to answer all of them because that would a ridiculously long post so I just did the first 10.

1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?

Many people inspire me, but someone that I find myself being inspired by over and over again is Anna Wintour. We’re in completely different fields. She’s in the fashion industry and I’m in healthcare, but her decisive, consistent, hard-working, true-to-herself personality just gets me. It’s what I want to be like. She believes in herself 100% and she actually got fired from Harper’s Bazaar before she got to where she is today with Vogue. It was because she felt that there needed to be dreadlocks on the models and her higher-up’s didn’t agree with that. She was told that she did not understand her audience, but look at her now! She stuck with her gut, trusted her intuition, and continued to pursue her dream. She also has an incredible work ethic and people see her as this cold, bitchy, perfectionist, but when I watch her interviews, she actually seems like a great person. She just knows what she wants and knowing things 100% always freaks people out. Like people say they’re 99.9% sure, never 100%. Doesn’t hold the same weight for some odd reason, in my opinion.

2. Would you like to be famous? In what way?

Yes because it would be a bigger platform in which to inspire others. I don’t think there’s a particular way that I want to be famous besides that I want to be famous for something I’ve done that’s impactful and that leaves the world a better place. I don’t want to be famous just for like marrying someone famous or something like that. I want to be famous for doing something like making a great organization, teaching people, or for creating something inspiring.

3. Before making a phone call, do you ever rehearse what you’re going to say? Why?

Yes if it’s an important phone call like a phone interview or something because you should always be prepared for an interview. If it’s just my friend or business partner or something like that, I don’t.

4. What would constitute a perfect day for you?

There’s no one way that makes a day perfect for me, unfortunately.

5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?

Last sung to myself in the car today. I don’t really sing to other people.

6. If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you choose?

Body, definitely. The mind of a 90 year old has so much wisdom and experiences to draw from! A 30 year old is just excited about the world and I think at 30 I’ll still be trying to figure life out.

7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die?

Cancer or Alzheimer’s. Some sort of medical illness.

8. Name three things you and your partner appear to have in common.

I’m currently single and I don’t have a partner. I can name three things my ex and I had in common though. We both hated conflict, showed love and affection very intensely, and we both had very unrealistic, dream-like ideas of how a relationship should be. Naive, young and in love. Everyone has those relationships. (:

9. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?

The adaptability of my mindset. I literally feel like because of it, I can be put in any situation and turn out okay.

10. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?

Nothing. My parents did a fantastic job and I wouldn’t be the person I am today if they did not raise me the way they did. I wish I responded better to the way they raised me in that I wish I didn’t fight them every step and that I was more open-minded, but you live and you learn.

That’s the main thing with life, isn’t it? Always learning from your mistakes and molding yourself into the person you want to be? I hope these questions helped you to understand me a little more and I can’t wait to talk to you guys in the next post!



The Beginning!

Hello May! New month, new goals. That includes starting a blog. I’ve always wanted to do it. I feel like it is a great way for me to extend my reach and inspire others with my lifestyle. It’s also always nice to have a little podium and space on the internet to express my opinions and feelings on things. Lastly, writing in general has always been very therapeutic for me and it’s one of the ways that I clear my head.

My main goal for this blog is to inspire and teach others. If you can learn something from me or you feel motivated by something I post then that’s exactly what I want! But I also want it to be a way for me document memories and look at how far I’ve come when I’m feeling like I’m in a tough situation. Nothing like inspiring and motivating yourself!
